The Black
Tuesday, January 1st, 2008We saw in the New Year in fabulous company with our friends & fans at The Black Lion Hotel in Cardigan. After taking 7hrs to get there-girl puts too much oil in the car-girl breaks down physically & metaphorically-girl lashes out on unsuspecting music partner-girl wholeheartedly apologises-girl is forgiven, me, Seb, Jon & Iestyn rocked the night away to peeps with silly hair. The Black is famous for having once been Cardigan’s seminal music venue having been graced with the presence of The Beatles & The Stones and more recently for being the pub where the Hollywood Dylan Thomas biopic was filmed. Talking of Hollywood I’ve just seen I Am Legend, what a great film. I’m getting to love films who’s symbolism is right on the nose: a black Jesus Christ, a devastating virus called Krypton, ground zero, suicide bombing…a stunning cultural commentary, even the dog who causes our lead’s demise turns out to be female! It’s brilliant, women causing all the trouble from the pioneering female scientist in the beginning to the admirable Anna, even the girl zombie causing the main male zombie’s headaches. Wow us girls still know how to mess you guys up. If anyone wants to discuss this movie further please comment, I could talk about it all day!

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007Hello
Sorry it's been so long. Things are going really well for us and it's keeping me sooooooo busy. I've just added us to Red Dragon's My Uploaded site. It's a site for local bands to make a profile and people can vote. Two bands, one with the people's vote and one chosen by a judging panel will get to play the Cardiff Metero Weekender which is a huge music event that would be a huge benefit to us. It will be in August and conincide with the digital download release of Ransom which we're putting out through our own label, Wolf Whistle records. Anyway, if you get a spare moment and you'd like to help us out please visit www.myuploaded.co.uk/ridinghood and vote for us. (more…)
April tour
Wednesday, April 25th, 2007Alas the April tour is coming to a close and will culminate with a much anticipated show at the Bull & Gate in London this Saturday. Its been a thrilling ride, rushing up and down the country rocking hard, sometimes with the band, sometimes just the two of us but always giving it 110%. It’s getting better and better and it’s amazing meeting so many people after each gig. At the beginning of the Month we popped into Bristol’s Mr.Wolf’s (brilliant music/noodle bar combo, £1 to get in and you get a free shot!) to play at an open mic night. We rattled the audience with a three-song set, they really weren’t expecting our brand of music-making there and we were a refreshing surprise, so much so most of the audience, as promised came to see us the next day at our headline gig at The Fleece.
Cherry pie
Sunday, March 18th, 2007We have just done 5 gigs in a row and this is my first lazy morning in what feels like an age, so I thought I’d say hello. I’d like to tell you about my crazy life but it’s all completely unbloggable so you’ll have to make do with the heavily censored version until my auto-biography is published in twenty years or so. Don’t get all excited now, it’s not been one blazing orgy after the other, it’s far stranger and complex than that.
Pies, pies and more pies
Monday, March 12th, 2007Ok so I know I should be doing this far more regularly, because if I don’t you all think that I’m sat on my little bottom doing nothing, but nothing could be further from the truth. In these exciting DIY times everything is wonderful because you can have full creative control but it’s amazing how many pies there are to keep one’s fingers in.
There’s apple pie, this is the gig pie, which involves, finding cool venues, finding the lovely peeps who book the bands there, bombarding them with pleading phone calls, offering sexual favours (this usually works) and then once the gig is in the bag, organising my band, rehearsing them, dressing them, feeding them etc, promoting the gig, this means following the same pattern as for getting the gig only applying it to mags, fanzines, online gig pages etc oh and remembering to put it on here, the website and the fifty odd other rdinghood profiles out there, once at the gig there’s the sound check, getting myself ready, singing and performing a blinder, collecting email addresses, selling CDs and merchandise, going home (trying not to crash on the M4 late at night), inputting all the lovely fan’s details and contacting them…..and that’s just apple pie!
Cardiff Barfly Gig
Tuesday, October 10th, 2006e had a wonderful gig at the Barfly on the 28th. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a good night. We were supporting the fabulously kooky Neon Plastix, who are the nicest band in the world. As soon as we rocked up they offered us full use of all of their equipment which just makes things run smoothly and gives everyone lots more stage space. Imagine the difference between 3 drumkits on stage and only 1! Chay is the sound engineer there, he loves his kick drum and is very patient and lovely. He’s a friend of a good friend of ours, Mark who runs a smashing rehearsal studio in Cardiff called Musicbox, it’s where we like to hone our set.
